- The G-8 meeting at Camp David recognized the need for universal access to environmentally sound, sustainable, secure and affordable sources of energy to ensure global economic growth and address climate change. The leaders agreed to "do our part" to limit effectively the increase in global temperature below 2ºC above pre-industrial levels, consistent with science, and to rationalize and phase-out over the medium term inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.
- The Training of Trainers Workshop, organized jointly by UNITAR, UNDP and the South African Government, equipped selected participants from the African region with the necessary skills and knowledge necessary to negotiate effectively on climate change related issues, including green finance, adaptation, international mitigation agreements, and technology transfer, and to in turn, equip others with these skills through effective training.

- The 4th African Water Week, organized around the theme “Water for Growth in Africa,” stressed the importance of raising the priority given to water for food and for energy production. The conference also celebrated the 10th anniversary of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW).
- The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a submission from Swaziland, on behalf of the African States, containing information on support to the national adaptation plan process in the least developed countries (LDCs), which will be considered by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at its 36th session.
- The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the submissions by Malawi and Brazil containing their views on modalities and procedures for financing results-based actions for REDD+. The submissions will be considered by the AWG-LCA at its 15th session.

A new lizard has been discovered in a war-torn area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to a paper in the African Journal of Herpetology<, the new species was found hiding under a rock in the high grasslands of the Marungu Plateau, an area known for landmines.
